GirlCode empowers change across Africa with 10th Annual Hackathon

GirlCode, a leading organisation dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the tech industry, is thrilled to announce its 10th annual GirlCode Hackathon: Empowering Change Across Africa. This year’s event, scheduled for 31 August – 1 September, aims to leverage technology to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) while actively promoting female participation in the tech sector.

In its 10th edition, the GirlCode Hackathon is poised to make a significant impact by expanding its reach across 10Girl Code African cities, establishing a continent-wide platform for innovation and collaboration. This transformative initiative, propelled by GirlCode’s commitment to positive change, aims to develop working Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

The hackathon has already garnered strong support, notably from partners like South Africa’s leading fibre network operator, Vuma, whose unwavering commitment has played a pivotal role in the event’s growth. From its initial presence in Johannesburg to now having a footprint in three cities in South Africa, the collaboration with Vuma has not only expanded its geographical reach but has also facilitated life-changing opportunities for participants. Impressively, past participants have earned the chance to attend Global Women in Tech conferences and have successfully secured job opportunities.
